What I Was Missing

I never knew,
the hole I had,
till I found you.

A memory,
from childhood,
of your joy.

Running the fields
Splashing the creeks
Chasing the cats.

And the quiet times;
when you just sit
next to my soul.

Smarter than they say,
sweet little guy.
So full of life.

My funny buddy,
loving hims a treat;
while scratching his back.

When I get home
He comes running
So happy I’m there.

He brings his toy,
For a game of fetch
And tug of war.

He’s so much more
Than just a dog.
He’s my little friend.

I’d protect him,
Like he’d protect me.
That special guy.
