Called To Forgive

Spirit Poem by Chris Bunton

I am called to forgive.
But, I really don’t want to.
I hate what they’ve done to me.
I want them to pay, like I’ve paid.

“Forgive to be forgiven”
I want to and I try to
but it never seems to end.
Have they forgiven me?

Pride demands Justice.
The demon whispers “Revenge”.
Fear barks, “They’ll do it again!”
Wisdom says, “Safer than sorry”

The battle is daily real,
and seeks to consume.
Forgiveness releases me,
and justice will come soon.

I forgive,
And God will make it true.
